Recycling and disposal technology of waste lithium batteries

2024-09-12

Waste lithium-ion batteries are mainly composed of a shell, a positive electrode, a negative electrode, an electrolyte and a diaphragm. The positive electrode is formed by coating lithium cobalt oxide powder on both sides of the aluminum foil current collector through PVDF for bonding; the negative electrode structure is similar to the positive electrode, and is formed by carbon powder bonded to both sides of the copper foil current collector. For the recycling of waste lithium-ion batteries, the commonly used waste lithium-ion battery resource methods include hydrometallurgy, pyrometallurgy and mechanical and physical methods. Compared with the hydrometallurgical and pyrometallurgical methods, the lithium-ion battery crusher uses mechanical and physical methods without the use of chemical reagents, and has lower energy consumption, which is an environmentally friendly method.

Physical sorting method for waste lithium batteries Physical sorting method is a sorting method based on the differences in material properties such as particle size, density, and magnetism. It mainly includes screening, gravity sorting, flotation, magnetic separation, etc. First, a vertical shearing machine, a wind shaker and a vibrating screen are used to grade the waste lithium-ion batteries. After crushing and sorting, positive electrode materials, negative electrode materials, diaphragms, current collectors, etc. are obtained. Then the positive and negative electrode materials are heat treated at 500℃, and then the lithium cobalt oxide and graphite are separated by flotation. The lithium cobalt oxide recovery rate of this process can reach 98%.

The implementation and rise of the process of lithium battery processing separator, waste lithium battery processing equipment and lithium battery recycling equipment began in 2017. Up to now, the favorable comprehensive utilization of waste lithium batteries has shown business opportunities. Many battery and material manufacturers have joined this industry and chosen to cooperate with Resek. After collecting waste lithium batteries, we process them to separate the metals of positive and negative electrode materials. We have mature lithium battery processing equipment, waste lithium-ion battery processing equipment product chain automation, environmentally friendly process selection, and also have the market development and R&D analysis capabilities of new products.
