Discussion on the recycling technology of waste lithium batteries

2024-11-28

Waste lithium-ion batteries are mainly composed of a shell, a positive electrode, a negative electrode, an electrolyte and a diaphragm. The positive electrode is formed by coating lithium cobalt oxide powder on both sides of the aluminum foil current collector through PVDF for bonding; the negative electrode structure is similar to the positive electrode, and is formed by carbon powder bonded to both sides of the copper foil current collector. For the recycling of waste lithium-ion batteries, the commonly used waste lithium-ion battery resource methods include hydrometallurgy, pyrometallurgy and mechanical and physical methods. Compared with the hydrometallurgical and pyrometallurgical methods, the lithium-ion battery crusher uses mechanical and physical methods without the use of chemical reagents, and has lower energy consumption, which is an environmentally friendly method.

Physical sorting method for waste lithium batteries Physical sorting method is a sorting method based on the differences in material properties such as particle size, density, and magnetism. It mainly includes screening, gravity sorting, flotation, magnetic separation, etc. First, a vertical shearing machine, a wind shaker and a vibrating screen are used to grade the waste lithium-ion batteries. After crushing and sorting, positive electrode materials, negative electrode materials, diaphragms, current collectors, etc. are obtained. The positive electrode material and the negative electrode material are then heat treated, and then the lithium cobalt oxide and graphite are separated by flotation. The lithium cobalt oxide recovery rate of this process can reach 98%.
